The Visual Hull of Curved Objects

چکیده

The visual hull is a geometric tool which relates the 3D shape of a concave object to its silhouettes or shadows. This paper develops the theory of the visual hull of objects bounded by smooth curved surfaces. From the basic definitions of visual hull we determine the surfaces which bound the visual hull of such objects. We show that these surfaces are patches of some surfaces which partition the viewpoint space of the aspect graph of the object. The surfaces concerned are those generated by the visual events tangent crossing and triple point. These ruled surfaces are analyzed for finding their active parts, i.e. the parts which could actually bound the visual hull. This analysis is based on the shape of the surface of the object at the tangency points of the ruled surfaces. An algorithm for computing the visual hull of a smooth curved object is outlined, which exploits the algorithm for computing its aspect graph .

On Computing the Convex Hull of (Piecewise) Curved Objects

We utilize support functions to transform the problem of constructing the convex hull of a finite set of curved objects into the problem of computing the upper envelope of piecewise linear functions. This approach is particularly suited if the objects are (possibly intersecting) circular arcs in the plane. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000). Primary 68U05; Secondary 65D18.

A Computational Geometric Approach to Visual Hulls

Recognizing 3D objects from their 2D silhouettes is a popular topic in computer vision. Object reconstruction can be performed using the volume intersection approach. The visual hull of an object is the best approximation of an object that can be obtained by volume intersection. From the point of view of recognition from silhouettes, the visual hull can not be distinguished from the original ob...

Hull Concept for Silhouette-Based Image Understanding

Many algorithms for both identifying and reconstructing a 3-D object are based on the 2-D silhouettes of the object. In general, identifying a nonconvex object using a silhouettebased approach implies neglecting some features of its surface as identification clues. The same features cannot be reconstructed by volume intersection techniques using multiple silhouettes of the object. This paper ad...

Convexhull of Curved Objects via Duality { a General Framework and an Optimal 2-d Algorithm

We address the problem of nding the convex hull of curved polyhedra in Euclidean spaces of nite dimension. Optimal algorithms for simple curved polygons in E 2 exist but the more general version of this problem seems missing from the literature. A precise deenition of the objects under consideration is given. It encompasses most interesting solids that could arise in practical applications of g...

ON Q-BITOPOLOGICAL SPACES

We study here $T_{0}$-$Q$-bitopological spaces and sober $Q$-bitopological spaces and their relationship with two particular Sierpinski objects in the category of $Q$-bitopological spaces. The epireflective hulls of both these Sierpinski objects in the category of $Q$-bitopological spaces turn out to be the category of $T_0$-$Q$-bitopological spaces. We show that only one of these Sierpinski ob...
